Art Print Survey
I’ve been thinking of how I offer my artwork and the art of the other artists I represent at www.fairiesandfantasy.com as art prints.
In the past I’ve been focused most on producing a high end product. Not your normal poster art, but rather a truly gallery quality fine art print that will last a lifetime, best framed, collectable and valuable.
I’m doing some business planning and reconsidering options for how you can buy artwork to display. I know money is tight for many people now and I want to offer more affordable options.
But I need more information. My tastes in art prints might be very different to everyone else!
I need your help! There’s a reward! (Winner has now been drawn)
Below are some polls so that I can get an understanding of how art fans like their art. You can answer any or all of the questions as you wish.
If you can also leave a comment with any other thoughts about how you like art prints and what you do with them I would appreciate it! In fact, I will be rewarding one random commenter with a 11x14inch art print of their choice from my range!
Assuming the print quality looks fabulous and you can get the artwork you want…
Thank you for answering these questions! The results will help decide what type of art prints you will be able to buy with my art on!
And remember, one random commenter will receive a 11×14 inch art print of their choice (drawn on the 28th July 2012)! Comment below with a valid email address to be in the draw.
The winner has been randomly selected- Congratulations Robin, you’ll be getting an email with more information so you can pick your free print

Great questions!
I really do think it depends on the space. For me, I have limited space on my walls, because I have a small room. I like choosing different frames with fancy borders, and having a print to suit it. But I like the choice of paper/medium and size, so I can have differing sizes. And I really like the idea of there being a border with your name and the work’s title too. Helps me remember, and if anyone’s ever curious, the details are there! n.n
Hope my answers help!

Hi Selina!
I think what you’re trying to do is a fabulous idea! I am a keen art collector, but specifically love my art in the form of large, flexible laminated posters! I’m a writer and creative soul, and want every inch of my house to be covered in colour and fantasy! I want the posters to be almost life sized, so I feel like I am living with the beautiful creatures depicted in your art! I have an entire stash of Victoria Frances artwork in this medium, and would love to collect yours in this format also!
I agree with your earlier sentiment, money is tight for many people and so many of us love your artwork… but it’s more often than not, a little hard to afford! I’ve picked up many poster sized artworks for between $10 -15 and they are exceptionally beautiful! I can’t wait to see what you decide on! Thanks for sharing with us.
Love and light, always xox

I’d LOVE to offer posters, but they’re something that I can’t print on demand. Posters can only really be made with those huge traditional printing presses, and ordered in bulk up front, and then stored (and they are big and fragile in storage!). I’ll keep looking for a solution, but so far it’s just too hard

I prefer the easier to frame US sizes: 5×7, 8×10, 11×14. I'll buy ACEOs to get a range of choices.
I'd have to say my favorite overall size is 8×10.
Elyn
I love having a full, uncropped, archival quality print of artworks I love. I don’t mind paying extra to know it will last a long time, even if it’s not easy to frame. Hope this helps

I would like to see your art on ACEOs. I like to collect them.
MonicaNG
I liked the polls, they gave me information of print preferences ^^
Lisa
If I really like an artwork I’m not too bothered about what form it comes in but your comment about prints lasting a lifetime had me thinking. I’d definitely pay more if it meant I got my money’s worth and could enjoy it for longer.
Having said that, I do agree that a cheaper option would be a great idea for those who can’t afford it or would like to give them as gifts.
Deanna Bach
great idea on doing a poll
Robin
Love your prints. I hope my answers have helped.
Jen Martin
I think this is a great idea, although I have never really had a problem with your selection, I think you offer a great range of choices already. However, if you did offer ACEO I might just be inclined to start a collection lol it would be a great way to have all of my favourite artworks without spending a fortune on large prints, or needing to find a frame & space to hang (I live in an apartment, so wall space is a bit limited lol)
Michelle Erica Green
I prefer US sizes, ready to hang. Thanks for asking!
Feyzan
I love your art and I generally do not care about their sizes or else but doing a poll to improve the products is a great idea.
Pixie
I buy a lot of art around my birthday and Christmas. I have way more than I can hang, but it is my thing, so I collect it all into portfolios, choose frames as I find a place for them, and then I can switch out images depending on my mood. I will still collect some images if they are offered in smaller sizes, like ACEO or postcards, but for the most part, I prefer getting 8 x 10s or 8.5 x 11s and if it is a particular favorite print of mine, I am happy to upgrade to 11 x 14, 11 x 17, or 13 x 19. I would rather have a huge collection of 8 x 10s and hang several of them, than to have a huge poster of just one image. But I always like to have the full image and not a cropped version. And would rather have to custom frame it than have it chopped up. Money is an issue right this moment so I need to watch the spending, so I guess postcards would be nice for now, just to have the images with me, but when I do have more money, I would certainly upgrade my favorites to my preferred sizes.
selinafenech
Just a question to help me clarify- You say you like sizes like 8×10, but you don’t like the artworks cropped. But most artworks aren’t naturally 8×10 size (8×10 is quite square, most artwork formats are taller rectangles). Do you mean you like the paper to be 8×10 and the image on the paper can be smaller (with white borders)?
Pixie
Hmmm, I guess I hadn’t really known much about the actual size of artworks. I guess in that case, I would say a white border is just fine. And if the cropping didn’t alter the image THAT much, it could be okay that way, too. As a non-artist, I guess I have to trust you on which you think is a better reproduction of your piece. I just have a lot of 8 x10 and 8.5 x 11 frames and love to collect your art so I can change them out depending on my moods.
But I would be sad to miss out on TOO much of a painting, you know? I also have several frames in the 11 x 14, 11 x 17, and 13 x 19 sizes, even a couple 16 x 20 and for favorites, I will get those larger sizes, or even get a custom frame to fit something extra special. Like the Fishing For Riddles painting and the Keeper of Secrets painting of yours I had matted and framed.
But for my general collection I like them to fit in the 8 x 10s or 8.5 x 11s. Hopefully that helped to clarify?
jennifer obremski
as a fellow artist I completely understand the issue.. is wanted to buy your art for years and money for me is an issue since I can never decide on Just one piece…it would be great to have smaller and cheaper options available
Kat
We mostly buy the 8×10 prints as we put them in a photo album.
Melissa Apple
I buy prints at my daughters birthdays and christmas. I also collect tarot cards. I would love to have originals but price always plays a part. I have all your books and enjoy them, they are a way for me to collect. I have a den i use as a library and i hang our prints. I have 2 daughters and like to buy for them. I would like to have more prints, if changing paper helps the price i say go for it
Thank you
Alison S.
I love the idea of ACEOs! I am a collector, and would definitely buy from your shop if you stocked them.
Lucy
I have art prints of all sizes, but on the whole I think I prefer something of a middling size that can be seen nice & clearly on the wall- A4 size or thereabouts (although I do like the odd massive poster size image here & there).
Hope that helps!
Patty
i like 8×10 prints closely followed by aceos/postcards because i am able to collect more
Faebyl
I think it would be fun to have your artwork in ACEO format, something I’ve been just recently collecting more of because I have soooo much art I have nowhere to hang it…but this way I can keep collecting it:).
It has been hard with money for everyone, like me and would love ANY paper as long as the quality is beautiful…I do want it to last long but posters are archival aren’t they? as for them being delicate…I buy art because I love the art itself not the paper or ink…if it looks good as you can make it I treat them like a dream and make them last:).
Toria
I prefer larger sizes, I love being able to see the detail. Generally, all I really care about in considering buying prints or artwork is, I find an artwork I absolutely love and have to have, and choose the options that I can afford. But if I had the money to afford any option, I’d go for the largest.
Rachel
I prefer 8×10 as the frames are easier to find, and shipping cost is easier to afford.
Jenny Heidewald
I like books since I don’t really frame a lot of things ,but I like collections. Books are really handy to keep it all safe and neat. Eventually I’ll get all of yours.
Mary Johnson
I have limited wall space as well. I have larger size canvas prints framed. These were two that I just fell in love with. In general, I like 8×10 size, as I have them in portfolios. I love the ACEO’s and 4×6 sizes also. I can collect more that way! I prefer full page prints with no borders.
Bethany
If I’m going to buy a print and had the money, I would prefer it to be either something that easily frames (like 11×14) or larger (and can either be ready to hang, or if it’s a really awesome print, I would be willing to custom frame it – especially if this means the image won’t have to be cropped). I generally like larger sizes because of the detail and being able to have a bigger impact. I think having both ready to hang and prints that you can choose how to frame yourself, along with multiple paper/printing options is best, so that everyone can choose what suits them.
But if I could only afford small prints, that would be fine too – I think I would prefer them where I would be able to choose the frames so I could get creative and possibly get frames where multiple frames are hanging from each other/stacked/etc. But small stretched canvases might be cool, too.
Janette
I actually have a pretty good-sized room, but a lot of the space is already covered with posters and stuff. Pretty much the only sizeable space I have left is my ceiling, and I’d rather keep my ceiling bare. So, I would buy prints that are the standard size of printer paper and somewhat smaller, so they can fit better on the walls and my door. But if I had the space and the money, I would definitly go for bigger sizes.
Also, about the texture, I really like the way glossy prints look, but fabric would be really cool. I don’t think I have any posters printed on fabric in my room yet!
Rebecca Pool
I would love to collect a series of archival quality prints and have them properly framed. My daughter loves your work too and the prints would be something I could leave to her when I shuffle off.
Ker
I like having a good choice of sizes and quality, because I will buy the best quality that I can afford at the time, but over the years that has varied considerably. I appreciate you looking at cheaper options again now, along with standard mat and frame sizes.
Julia Forster
Thanks for the questions ! Very interesting ! I like posters on the wall, and much smaller sized prints I could put into one of my own decorated scrapbooks.
Marjolijn Ashara
Hi Selina!
I think it’s wonderful that you would ask the people that love your art for advise. It shows you really have a connection with them/us
As for artprints. In our house we have several artprints and several posters. For me, what it really comes down to is price. I would LOVE to have a beautiful, high quality art print that I can put into a beautiful frame and hang somewhere where it would last forever. But the fact is that we don’t have the money to do that. On top of that we have, with your art, the fact that we live in the Netherlands, where it’s not easy to buy your art. Taking the shipping costs into consideration the prints are quite pricey for us.
. But that is what we take into consideration. We do own several of your beautiful statues, because they are more affordable here than the prints
By saying that I don’t mean to say that you are ‘expensive’ or ‘overpriced’ or something, I fully understand that making prints is an expensive business and that shipping costs are a necessary evil
Greetings,
Marjolijn Ashara

I just love all your art work. My wish is that it would fit into a standard size frame including the border around it. I don’t like to crop it, so even though the actual picture is standard size, I always end up having a frame custom made. That leads to me paying more for the frame than the art. If that didn’t bum me out, I would probably buy a lot more often. As it is, I can’t help myself and still find myself buying around holidays. Also, I absolutely love when they are signed in the corner and wouldn’t mind seeing more limited editions that are numbered.
Kristy
Lovely artwork. It’s great that you asked these questions, I think you really will get a great idea of what people want. I love 8x10s because I can afford them and fit more of them!
Candice Brown
I like prints that come in standard frame sizes, as well as good quality long-lasting prints.
Gabrielle
Thanks for asking us our opinions on what we prefer
Kristin Palmer
Wonderful survey! As an artist I have been wondering the same thing. When I buy prints it really depends on what size I can afford and of course space. I also like for the image to be a standard size because a custome matte and frame can be expensive!
Valerie L.
I tend to buy the 5×7 prints because A) They’re really affordable, even with shipping to the U.S.; B) I don’t have a lot of wall space; C) I like pairing two similar artworks in an 11×14 frame. If I had the space and the money, I’d love to be able to do 8x10s but I just don’t have the space in my room nor the money to get ALL the prints I really like.
Perhaps my problem in that regard is that I really like probably 80-90% of your artwork and I want to own LOTS of it, so I choose the smaller size so I can afford to get more of them.
I would love to get the art books that you have too, but I like being able to hang the prints up and I couldn’t do that with a book.
Krystal Carpenter
I love the 16*20.’s but the smaller ones work better if you are getting a lot of them.
Elysia
It’s always interesting to see what other interesting ways that a print can be placed upon. I have a huge collage on one of my walls of a mixture of just cello prints, framed prints, post cards, greeting cards, & other random “faeriness” that no matter how many times you look at it, your eye is drawn to something that you are feeling… I call it “Art Divination”, lol!!!
Love the energy you put into your work. Was surprised how well I connected w/ the Oracle Deck & get compliments on the cards all of the time…
Lee Ann Scherman
You are an incredibly talented artist! I love your work SO much!
Leslie Sims
I love having a variety of choices about size and material, it allows me to choose what I think would look best with the artwork and my home.
Parveen
I think this is a wonderful idea! I love the amazing oppertunities you give!
Parveen
I like to buy prints for birthday gifts, and find that the bigger, the better. Because you can fully appritiate to hard work put into the art, and can see the wonderful detail!
Kim
I’ve got a couple of art prints, although have to admit I haven’t framed any of them!
Riley Zilm
I like to buy posters or banners as big as I can, but often also like to make sure they fit the wall area I want to hang them. I love to admire the art around me (and would absolutely adore staring at yours every day) so I like the option of choosing your proferred paper type and size. I also like having the artist’s name and deatils as such so I know exactly who to praise and what for.
I like frames, but tend to put custom ones aside as they add to the cost load, so I’d mainly get 4x6in images as the range o frames I own reach that size.
I love your artwork and the range of options you give us. Hope to see more soon!
