Gratuitous Baby Photos

Gratuitous Baby Photos

I’m tired today, and not getting much progress done on the work I should be doing so I’m going to have some fun instead. You know what that means? I’m going to subject you all to gratuitous baby photos!
Persephone is growing up fast. She’s turning into a real little person now, smiling, giggling, cooing and trying her darndest to get crawling (she’s three and a half months old now and just mastered rolling over in both directions).
Here are a few of my favourite photos we’ve taken of her so far.

First bath- Yeah, she wasn’t keen on the whole thing. She likes them much more now.

First smiles- Not real, on purpose, smiles at this stage, just “sleep smiles”, but still really cute. She started really smiling when she levelled up at about 6 weeks old.

Level up! Almost overnight she started smiling, sticking her tongue out, blowing bubbles and showing much more complex expressions. Also, watching everything around her with so much curiosity and interacting with people and toys. So much more fun than the little sleep/feed/poop machine she was for the first few weeks.

It’s hard to see in the photos, but she has very dark blue eyes. Apparently baby’s eyes can change colour for up to nine months after they are born! We know, genetically, her eyes will stay blue, but I wonder if they will stay this dark?

She still likes to stick her tongue out a lot. It’s by being a cute little cheeky monkey like this…

…That she got massively spoiled for her first Christmas by friends and family. Check out her haul!! Plush bacon, a very hungry caterpillar, awesome recycled fabric dinosaurs, the Wonky Donkey book (the stinky-dinky honky tonky winky wonky donkey! Yep, I’m memorising it already!), and a very special teddy bear knitted by Great Grandma (with matching jumpers for them both!). She even got a book about her namesake, the Persephone story from Greek mythology. (Fun Facts: taking Sephy’s “Christmas Haul Photo Shoot” took half a day to set up, stayed set up for two weeks over which time we did about five photoshoots trying to catch her in a really good mood, and took over 700 photos!)
That’s my baby girl! Enough baby photos for now?

  1. You are blessed with such an adorable baby! You seem to be balancing work and motherhood quite well! As someone contemplating family life, it is good to know that it can be done!
I look forward to more Persephone updates.

    1. So far balancing work and baby has been ok. In the first few months at least looking after her just meant that one hour in every four belonged to her (an average, but there are good days and bad days), but then she’d sleep and I could get work done. But I think now she’s wanting to be awake more during the day (and entertained!) I’ll be finding less time for work. I still intend to keep working when I can though, we’ll see how it goes!

  2. My daughter’s eyes were the same dark blue – but at about 2 years of age they started to change! She has hazel eyes like me. 😀 Your baby is so sweet & gorgeous!

  3. Thanks for sharing a little of your gorgeous little girl. They grow up so quick, its wonderful that your taking so many pics!!! 🙂

  4. She is truly breathtaking and seems to have quite a personality already! My little boy turned a year old last week, and he, too, is obsessively photographed and recorded constantly. I chronicle it all in my mummy blog, but seeing them in photos is nothing to seeing them in person, eh! 🙂

  5. Thanks for sharing – she is truly gorgeous. What a powerful name she has. My Mum was so shocked when my eyes changed from blue to green when I was 5 years old. My sister’s eyes changed from hazel to green when she was about 8 years old.

  6. She is adorable, I love babies with no hair!!! (is that weird?! lol) Do you think you’ll end up painting her into any of drawings? like a baby fairy or as a sequel to the pregnant mermaid piece? She really is such a cutie!!!

  7. She is so beautiful!! My kids are teenagers now but I still remember when they were tiny bundles of joy. Thank you so much for sharing precious photos. I love her Great Grandma’s handmade teddy bear, by the way!

  8. Beautiful daughter! Thank you for sharing :). Genetics are so interesting imo; I love delving into it. My son’s eyes kept changing until he was about 2 years old. He went from blue eyes, to green eyes, to hazel eyes that have stayed.

    Selina,
Oh what a pretty little girl – congratulations.
I understand how difficult balancing it all is (having 5 of my own). I paint when my kids sleep.
My youngest (Quinn) is at the age where she is getting into everything.
I have known it to take up to 14months for eye colour to change.
Amazing how enjoyable taking photos can be – you can never have enough photos of your babies IMO
